On March 1st, Beijing time, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard threw out the big bomb: the Strait of Hormuz is fully blocked. Hundreds of oil tankers are stuck in place, with 30% of global maritime oil and 20% of LNG trade directly halted.

Brent crude oil jumped 15% in response, institutions are saying: if the blockade continues, oil prices will soar to 120-150 dollars, in extreme cases reaching 200.

Three logics for you to ponder:

First, safe-haven demand. Traditional finance trembles, some funds begin to treat BTC as digital gold. Gold skyrocketed yesterday, and today BTC follows suit, no problem there.

Second, inflation expectations. With the blockade of Hormuz, oil prices are bound to surge, and as inflation expectations rise, Bitcoin becomes hard currency against fiat currency devaluation. The macro strategy director of 21Shares stated bluntly: war raises inflation, Bitcoin benefits from rising inflation expectations.

Third, liquidation cascade. Shorts that were ambushed before the news were instantly pushed up and exploded, with short positions liquidated totaling 145 million, forming an upward spiral.

But don’t get too excited, this is just the first half.

The real test is tomorrow—when the US stock market opens, Bitcoin ETF will be traded again. The managing partner of Tokenize Capital warns: if ETF funds withdraw, BTC may easily drop below the support level of 63,000 dollars.

Iran is just making threats, the real military action hasn’t started yet. If the conflict escalates, a second massive shock could happen at any time.
