On February 17, 2026, Daniel, 45 years old, a former web developer, goes to Valencia to finalize a transaction found on Leboncoin. He sells several gold and silver coins for a total value of approximately 24,000 euros.
The buyer offers him a payment in cryptocurrency to avoid carrying too much cash, and Daniel agrees.
On the day of the meeting, the exchange goes smoothly. Daniel hands over his gold and silver coins and in return, he receives what he believes to be a digital payment.
At the moment, everything seems normal.
But after the transaction, Daniel realizes that something is wrong.
The funds are impossible to recover, and the currency received is not recognized by any platform. He then realizes the truth: the cryptocurrency is fake.

The scammer took advantage of his victim's lack of technical knowledge on the subject.
