If we only stay at the level of 'Blob is a new data abstraction', the value of Walrus is still incomplete. What truly determines whether Blob can become an infrastructure-level data unit is how it is engineered under real network conditions. Any data layer protocol, once it departs from discussions of engineering feasibility, can only remain in the conceptual stage. The design of Walrus for Blob storage does not pursue a theoretical optimal solution, but rather makes a series of clear trade-offs between cost, availability, fault tolerance, and long-term operational stability.

First, it should be clarified that Walrus did not adopt the traditional thinking of 'high replication factor means security' when designing Blob storage. In many early decentralized storage networks, data security mainly relied on a simple and crude replication strategy: a piece of data is copied to as many nodes as possible, in exchange for the psychological sense of security that 'as long as there is one node left, the data will not be lost'. This approach may be acceptable in small-scale, low-frequency usage scenarios, but once faced with AI datasets, gaming resources, or large-scale media content, its cost can quickly spiral out of control.
