This figure is better than market expectations and is generally considered bullish for the US economy. Now, why is this data called a Near Two-Year Low? There are two main reasons. First, current jobless claims are at a historically low level. Second, the figure is near the lowest level in the last two years. This indicates that layoffs are still low, and indirectly indicates that the labor market is still quite stable. So, what does this data actually mean? We can view it as a low-fire economy. This means that few people are being laid off, and companies are tending to retain their employees. This is also often referred to as a low-hire, low-fire environment, where companies are not aggressively recruiting, but also not conducting many layoffs.
