went through the e-visa section this morning and one thing hit differently than i expected 😂
honestly? the flow maKes sense. applicant submits online. identity verified through zero-knowledge passport proofs stored on-chain. smart contracts handle routine processing. immutable records prevent fraud and corruption.
faster issuance, real-time status updates.
the ZKP piece is the interesting part. the system proves a passport is valid withOut exposing the full passport data on-chain. ICAO 9303 compatible - works with existing ePassport chip infrastructure. the proof goes on-chain. the raw data doesnt..
but here is what i kept thinking about
the smart contract automates routine processing. what counts as routine is a design decision made at deployment. edge cases - dual nationals, expired travel documents mid-application, sanctions list hits - fall outside routine.
those cases go where? the whitepaper describes automation handling routine tasks and reducing administrative overhead. it doesnt describe the exception handling pathway f or cases the contract cAnt resolve
automation that cuts visa fraud and processing time for standard cases - or a system that handles 80% of applications cleanly and quietly pushes the hard 20% into an undefined manual process?? 🤔
