been going through the protocol state section and the locked vs unlocked framing is sharper than it first appears 😂

midnight doesnt launch fully open. different components of the protocol exist in locked states at genesis and transition to unlocked as specific conditions are met.

treasury is locked until governance is live. certain protocol parameters are locked until the network reaches defined thresholds. the unlocking conditions are not time-based - they are state-based.

that distinction matters more than it sounds.

time-based unlocks happen regardless of whether the network is ready. state-based unlocks require the network to actually reach the condition before anything opens. the protocol cannot be rushed into an unlocked state by waiting long enough - the state has to be genuinely achieved.

what i cant fully resolve is whether all the unlocking conditions are precisely defined enough that the transition is unambiguous when it arrives or whether some conditions leave enough interpretive room that disputes about whether the condition was met become possible.

state-based unlocks that enforce genuine readiness before the protocol opens or conditions that sound precise until the moment someone has to decide if they were actually met?? 🤔
