Pharmacies will close across Germany on March 23 due to a nationwide strike by their employees; In total, more than 160,000 people will participate in the strike. This is reported by TASS, citing the newspaper Bild.
The publication notes that pharmacy workers are outraged by "chronic underfunding". They are expected to go out on demonstrations in Berlin, Hannover, Düsseldorf, and Munich.
"The situation with our pharmacies and the supply of medicines, as well as medical care for the residents of Germany, has long been tense," quotes Bild the words of the head of the Federal Association of German Pharmacies (ABDA), Thomas Preis. "The last salary increase for pharmacy employees was 13 years ago, although during this period additional costs have increased by more than 65%," he reported.
