I’ve been watching… I’m waiting… I’m looking… I focus on the small signals most people ignore, the quiet moments where someone clicks “verify” without thinking, where a wallet signs something in the background, where identity gets confirmed and then forgotten just as fast. It happens so smoothly that no one questions it anymore. But when I sit with it, I keep feeling this strange loop… like we keep proving who we are, again and again, but nothing really stays with us.

I keep thinking about how many times I’ve had to start from zero. New app, new login, new proof. Same person, same history, but none of it carries forward. It’s like trust has no memory. That’s where this idea of portable credentials starts to feel different to me. Not exciting, not revolutionary… just quietly logical. Like something that should have already been there, waiting.

But then I watch how it actually plays out. Systems organize everything neatly. A credential has a source, a purpose, a structure. It can be verified, reused, moved across places. On the surface, it feels clean. Almost too clean. Because people aren’t like that. We don’t move in straight lines. We test systems, we find shortcuts, we repeat behaviors that give us results. And slowly, what was meant to build trust starts becoming something we optimize instead.

I’ve seen moments where everything picks up fast. Credentials being created, tokens flowing, activity rising like something real is forming. It feels alive for a while. But then it fades… not with a crash, just quietly. Like attention shifting somewhere else. And I sit there wondering if anything actually settled, or if it was just movement without depth.

Still, there’s one feeling I can’t ignore. The idea that I can prove something about myself without exposing everything behind it. That part feels important. It feels like control coming back in a small way. But even then, I’m not fully convinced it changes how people trust. Maybe it just changes how fast we move through systems.

And I’m still here, watching it unfold, noticing the patterns, going back and forth in my own head… not really sure if this is something that strengthens trust, or just reshapes it into something lighter, faster, and maybe just as fragile in a different way.
