The XPL project (eXperimental Plasma Laboratory) is an ambitious research initiative aimed at pushing the boundaries of plasma technology applied to waste valorization. It is not an industrial unit, but a cutting-edge experimental pilot designed as a modular and ultra-instrumented test bench.

Its main objective is to optimize and scientifically validate plasma gasification processes. In real but controlled conditions, researchers test different types of waste (medical, special industrial, grinding residues, etc.) to precisely characterize the output products: the composition of syngas, the stability of vitrified slag, and the behavior of heavy metals.

The core of the XPL project is its flexible plasma reactor, capable of operating with different types of torches and in various atmospheres. Advanced instrumentation (sensors, spectrometers, online analyzers) allows for massive real-time data collection, feeding numerical models to predict and improve performance.

In the long term, XPL serves as a development platform for future applications, such as the production of synthetic fuels (Power-to-X) from syngas or the treatment of highly radioactive waste. This project thus constitutes an essential link between fundamental research and the industrial deployment of sustainable plasma solutions, ensuring their reliability, efficiency, and environmental safety before scaling up.
