INTRODUCTION TO THE MASTER CASE - Bankers and authorities from Brasília reported that Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the STF allegedly sought the Federal Police to obtain information about the investigations into the purchase of Banco Master by BRB, in addition to supposedly pressuring the Central Bank.
The information, disclosed by columnist Mônica Bergamo, indicates that the interest is linked to the fact that the office of the minister's wife, Viviane Barci de Moraes, has a million-dollar contract with the financial institution. The Federal Police's director-general, Andrei Rodrigues, denied having discussed the matter with Moraes, classifying the story as a lie. The STF also issued a statement denying pressure on the president of the BC, Gabriel Galípolo, stating that the conversations were strictly about international sanctions. It is worth remembering that the police operation resulted in the arrest of the president of Master, Daniel Vorcaro, and the liquidation of the bank by the BC in November.
