As you saw in the news that I shared, in the article about quantum computing, this is a piece of news that has generated a lot of noise, especially now that giants like Google are setting dates as close as 2029. But, to ensure we are all on the same page, let's explain simply what this means.
To make it easy to understand: the security of Bitcoin today is like a mathematical lock so complex that it would take all the computers in the world together billions of years to guess the combination.
However, a Quantum Computer operates under a different logic. While a normal computer tries one combination at a time, a quantum one can test thousands of combinations simultaneously. What takes a common machine an eternity, this super machine could solve in minutes.
Who is behind this and why now?
It is not a coincidence. Giants like Google and IBM, and powers like China, are in a technological race. They are not doing it to "break" the crypto sector, but to dominate critical areas such as the creation of medicines that are impossible to design today, new materials, and, above all, to enhance Artificial Intelligence to levels we cannot imagine. It is literally the new space race of the 21st century.
Why is it news right now? As the article mentioned, the threat is no longer seen decades away. With Google's advances, we are talking about these machines potentially being a functional reality in the next 3 to 5 years. Therefore, networks like Ethereum are already working on new "shields," what we call post-quantum cryptography.
Should we be worried? It is not a reason to panic, but to be informed. The crypto ecosystem is already preparing to change those current "locks" for new ones that not even a quantum computer can decipher. It is a necessary evolution for blockchain technology to remain the digital fortress we know.

Now that we better understand the concepts from the previous news, do you think Bitcoin's structure will allow it to update as quickly as more agile networks?
