Sign Protocol, in my view, is a serious effort to build a "verification layer" for data instead of directly competing at the blockchain layer. Its strengths lie in its reasonable design with schema and attestation, its applicability to real-world systems like identity or finance, and its mindset that does not rely on a specific chain. However, the project also faces many significant challenges: the assumption that attestation can become a common standard, reliance on social trust rather than just cryptography, and overly ambitious goals aimed at national-level infrastructure. Overall, this is a project with the right direction regarding the issues, but its chances of success will heavily depend on real-world adoption and factors beyond technology.
