The Central Council of Jews in Germany disagreed with the statement of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany that the war against Iran "contradicts international law". In Tehran, on the contrary, Steinmeier's position was supported.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany criticized the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier for his words that the war of the USA and Israel against Iran violates international law and is a "political fatal mistake". "Anyone who easily calls the war against the mullah regime a 'violation of international law' ignores history," said the chairman of the council Joseph Schuster to the dpa agency on Tuesday, March 24.
He reminded that the destruction of Israel is a part of the state doctrine of Iran since 1979. Shuster also noted that the war against Iran gives hope to the Iranian people for an end to 47 years of terror and oppression. "Neither their aspiration for freedom nor the struggle for the continued existence of Israel and the security of neighboring Arab countries is helped by the self-assured assessment of the war by German politicians," he said. Instead, Shuster would like to hear about solidarity with those who suffer from the Iranian regime.
Earlier the same day, during an event in Berlin dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the German Foreign Ministry, Steinmeier criticized the military campaign in Iran, stating that it "contradicts international law" and could have been "avoided."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry assessed Steinmeier's words.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on March 24 that the President of Germany deserves recognition "for condemning violations against Iranians." Araghchi also called on other political leaders who value the rule of law to speak out.
At the same time, the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed the opinion that international law is "practically dead," which, according to him, is a consequence of "Western double standards regarding Gaza and Ukraine, as well as silence about the aggression of Israel and the USA against Iran."
