Stop blowing about the 'ultimate privacy', let's dig into whether Midnight's moat is actually waterproof
Brothers, recently I've been up late reviewing the underlying documents and dynamics of @MidnightNetwork , and one thought keeps coming to mind: these folks really know how to find loopholes.
Right now, there are a lot of ZK projects on the market, casually claiming absolute anonymity and invisibility. To put it plainly, that kind of old-school pure black-box approach will eventually be wiped out by regulation. Midnight is taking a rather clever route — selective disclosure. This kind of compliance privacy that 'can be shown to auditors but not to the neighbor' is the prerequisite for institutions to dare to enter with real money. Don’t boast about how grand the narrative is, let’s look at the evidence: currently, there are indeed people running private order books and compliant asset issuance cases on its development network, which is much more tangible than just shouting about the track slogan.
Now let's talk about its dual-token economics. Separating governance staking ($NIGHT) from on-chain gas consumption (DUST) seems to have good intentions, aiming to allow users not to have to constantly watch the price fluctuations to pay transaction fees, creating a smoother experience. I tend to believe that this engineering design is indeed beautiful. But I also have doubts; I’m not sure if this dual-token isolation can really lock ecological value in the underlying network, but how will I verify it? Very simple: wait for the mainnet to launch, and closely monitor the real active wallet count and the consumption speed of DUST. If no one uses the application, the dual-token model is just a pretty decoration that doesn’t work.
In short, my current attitude is: the big direction of privacy + compliance is not wrong, but we shouldn't rush headlong into this. The conclusion is not absolute; prioritize safety before proceeding further. Keep a close eye on the real delivery of its subsequent ecology and the selling pressure from the token unfreezing period, and don't get carried away by the purely narrative hype.
