Operation Atlantic brings together agencies from three countries to combat cryptocurrency fraud and track illicit money flows.
This initiative aims to protect victims by targeting cryptocurrency fraud operations, such as phishing for approvals.
Law enforcement agencies from three countries have begun Operation 'Atlantic,' a coordinated effort to combat cryptocurrency-related fraud, dismantle fraud networks, and enhance cross-border operations to target illegal behaviors in the field of digital assets.
On March 16, the National Crime Agency (NCA) published a report on Operation 'Atlantic,' stating that it is a joint effort between law enforcement agencies from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
According to the report, agencies involved in the operation include the U.S. Secret Service, the National Crime Agency in the UK, the Ontario Provincial Police in Canada, the Ontario Securities Commission, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the City of London Police, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia, and the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK.
Operation 'Atlantic' primarily aims to dismantle organized fraud networks, recover stolen funds, assist victims in protecting their assets to prevent further losses, and raise public awareness of cryptocurrency investment fraud.
The operation also targets individuals who have lost or are at risk of losing their digital currencies through a method known as 'consent phishing,' which is typically associated with online investment fraud, or what is also known as 'mask fraud,' where victims are gradually deceived into sending large amounts of money to scammers over time.
The U.S. Secret Service indicated that 'consent phishing and investment fraud cost victims millions of dollars annually,' according to Brent Daniels, Deputy Assistant Director of the Office of Field Operations at the U.S. Secret Service. He added that the primary goal of Operation 'Atlantic' is to empower the U.S. Secret Service and its international law enforcement partners to quickly detect and stop these fraudulent operations.
The agency also reported that Operation Atlantic is an extension of Project Atlas, which was launched in 2024 to combat cryptocurrency fraud networks, initiated by the U.S. Secret Service and the Ontario Provincial Police. Thus, the new Operation Atlantic enhances cross-border law enforcement activities by adding more international partners than the previous project.
However, the efforts of the three countries indicate a firmer stance against cryptocurrency fraud, as authorities seek to close legislative gaps and enhance accountability in the digital assets sector.$SOL
