Midnight Network is a fourth-generation blockchain focused on rational privacy, developed in close connection with the Cardano ecosystem (of which it is a partner chain). It utilizes zero-knowledge proofs (specifically ZK-SNARKs and the Kachina protocol) to allow the verification of transactions and data without revealing sensitive information. This enables applications that balance public transparency and the protection of personal/commercial data, with selective disclosure: you decide what to show and to whom. Unlike traditional blockchains (everything public) or privacy coins (everything hidden), Midnight introduces programmable privacy that is compliant with regulations, ideal for DeFi, digital identity, healthcare, enterprise, and dApps that require confidentiality without sacrificing verifiability. The native token is NIGHT (unshielded, for governance and security), while private transactions use DUST. The mainnet is live or in the final stage in 2026, with developer-friendly tools (TypeScript-based) and a focus on real adoption.
