BREAKING: 🇺🇸 The U.S. is preparing a ground operation? 🔔 🇺🇸 The U.S. is deploying a Marine expeditionary unit to the Middle East due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to three U.S. officials, the Pentagon is sending additional Marine forces and warships in response to increased Iranian attacks in the strait.
The officials noted that U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegset approved a request from U.S. Central Command to form a rapid-response amphibious group and a Marine expeditionary unit, typically consisting of several warships and 5,000 Marines.
The Japan-based destroyer USS Tripoli, carrying Marines, is heading to the Middle East, two officials said.
