29 March – St. Eustace (Eustachius) of Rome

Martyr

2nd-century Roman general (originally named Placidus), converted to Christianity after a vision of Christ crucified between the antlers of a stag while hunting. Baptized with his wife Theopista and two sons Agapius and Theopistus. Refused to sacrifice to idols under Hadrian, lost his family (scattered by divine providence), suffered poverty and trials, but was restored when the emperor recalled him for military service. After victory he refused pagan rites again; martyred with his reunited family by being roasted alive inside a bronze bull (c. 118). Patron of hunters, firefighters, trappers, torture victims, difficult situations, and against fire and torture.

“In all things God is my hope.”

A powerful story of conversion, loss, fidelity through suffering, and final restoration — reminding us that God allows trials to purify faith, but never abandons His own.

Lord Jesus, through the intercession of St. Eustace and his family, grant hunters, soldiers, and all in danger the grace of unwavering trust, conversion of heart, and courage to confess You even unto death.
