In the cryptocurrency industry, when privacy is mentioned, many people first think of privacy coins, such as Monero. These projects emphasize anonymous transactions, making asset flows difficult to trace. However, this model has limited applications in the real world.

@MidnightNetwork chose a different path. It does not focus on creating anonymous assets but hopes to become the infrastructure for privacy data, providing privacy capabilities for various blockchain applications.

The core concept of Midnight is called 'selective disclosure'. Users can publicly share some information as needed while keeping sensitive data hidden. For instance, in financial applications, institutions can prove the compliance of funds without having to disclose all transaction details. This design is more acceptable to enterprises and regulatory environments.

From a technical perspective, Midnight achieves data protection through zero-knowledge proofs while retaining on-chain verification capabilities. This means that the blockchain remains trustworthy and auditable, but the data cannot be viewed arbitrarily.

The project has also designed a relatively unique economic model.

NIGHT is a public token responsible for governance and network security. DUST is an internal resource used to pay transaction fees. As long as you hold NIGHT, your account will continuously generate DUST, akin to having a battery that can constantly recharge. Users primarily consume DUST while using the network, rather than directly spending NIGHT.

This structure addresses two issues. On one hand, it ensures the stability of privacy transaction costs, while on the other hand, it prevents privacy features from being treated as anonymous assets in circulation.

Midnight is becoming an increasingly prominent project in the Cardano ecosystem. If it can be successfully implemented, many real-world applications could potentially be moved on-chain, such as anonymous reporting systems, privacy identity verification, and commercial data exchange.

In the early days of blockchain development, the most discussed topics were speed and transaction fees. Now, privacy and compliance are becoming new competitive directions. Whether Midnight can seize this opportunity will be answered in the coming years. Stay tuned for further surprises.
