🇺🇸 UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE TO TEACH U.S. HISTORY THROUGH ‘GRAND THEFT AUTO’
Starting in 2026, the University of Tennessee will launch a course that explores American history through the Grand Theft Auto series.
Created by professor Tore Olsson, the class will use titles like Vice City Stories, San Andreas, and GTA V to examine themes of immigration, inequality, policing, and media polarization.
Students won’t need to play the games — lessons will include curated footage and screenshots. While GTA 6 was originally intended to be part of the curriculum, its release delay to May 2026 means it won’t be included at launch.
A fresh way to study history — through one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.
