❗️One of the founders of PsiQuantum, Peter Shadbolt, announced the launch of construction for a large-scale quantum hub in Chicago. According to him, the future system will possess computational power capable of theoretically challenging modern encryption methods used in the Bitcoin network.
🖇 At the current stage, builders have installed a steel structure weighing 500 tons in a record six days, which will serve as the foundation of the center. The ambitious project aims to launch a quantum machine with 1 million qubits — such a performance indicator is comparable to billions of conventional processors.
🔎 The future complex is planned to be used for:
— developing the next generation of supercomputers based on AI;
— conducting extremely complex scientific research;
— solving computational problems that classical technology cannot handle.
💵 The project has received $1 billion in funding, with tech giant Nvidia being a key partner in the development. In addition to high power, experts are focused on creating error-correcting systems — this will allow quantum devices to operate stably even in the presence of technical failures.
💸 The emergence of such capabilities has reignited discussions about the vulnerability of the first cryptocurrency to quantum threats.
