A migrant boat has been confirmed adrift near Crete, Greece, resulting in the deaths of over 20 people. According to RTHK, the Greek Coast Guard reported that survivors indicated the vessel departed from Libya on the 21st of this month and became lost at sea. Due to a lack of food and water, 22 individuals died, and their bodies were cast into the sea.

The Coast Guard also noted that the boat had sent a distress signal near Crete last Thursday. They managed to rescue 26 people, among whom two South Sudanese men were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking.

In recent years, Greece has become a primary entry point for refugees and illegal migrants from the Middle East and Africa seeking to enter the European Union. The surrounding waters frequently witness tragic incidents of migrant boats sinking, leading to loss of life.
