What is Katana (KAT)?
Katana is an Ethereum Layer 2 network focused on decentralized finance. It was introduced in 2025 and developed by Polygon Labs in collaboration with the crypto firm GSR. The network is designed to address structural issues in DeFi, including fragmented liquidity and reliance on inflation-based incentives.
The project operates with a defined structure that limits activity to a selected set of DeFi applications. This model concentrates liquidity within a smaller ecosystem rather than allowing unrestricted deployment of applications. Core integrations include platforms for trading and lending, which help streamline user activity and improve capital efficiency. Katana also incorporates a system that generates yield from bridged assets and redistributes it within the ecosystem.
KAT is the native utility token of the Katana network. It was launched in March 2026 and listed on multiple cryptocurrency exchanges. The token is primarily used for staking and for managing incentive distribution across the network. Users can stake KAT to receive vKAT, which represents their participation in the ecosystem. Holders of vKAT can allocate emissions toward specific liquidity pools, influencing where capital is directed. In return, participants receive a share of fees generated by network activity. KAT does not function as a governance token, as protocol decisions are managed by internal committees rather than token holders.
The project was developed by Polygon Labs and GSR, both of which contributed to the design and implementation of the network. Their involvement focuses on building a structured DeFi environment with controlled liquidity distribution and defined incentives.
The total supply of KAT is 10 billion tokens, while the circulating supply is 2.34 billion tokens at the time of writing.
KAT is listed on Binance for trade and purchase. The current price of KAT is available and updated in real-time on Binance.
